Week 3 Choice Board

Welcome to Week 3!
I am so proud of all the great learning you are taking on for yourself.  Please continue to work hard and challenge yourself as you move through the choice board this week.  Many of you are very close to passing a level on Lexia Core 5.  Just a reminder Grade 2 levels in Core are 10, 11, and 12.

If you have not seen the news from L.I.N.K. yet today click on this link: https://www.wevideo.com/view/1629181607
Mrs. Gruchot and her team will be sharing the news on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. 😀

Jackson shared what he learned when he experimented with an egg on Flipgrid last week.  Now you can watch the video to see what actually happened.  Enjoy!

Here is your Week 3 Choice Board: Week 3 Choice Board

New this week:  You can share your progress on the Week 3 Choice Board by visiting WIXIE.  You will find a copy of the choice board assigned to you.  You can check off or put a stamp on the activities you complete.  It is your choice to do this but I will be enjoy watching your progress over the week.

You are also welcome to visit our Google Classroom to find extra activities if you would like some paper pencil activities, symmetry videos, and a bird sighting class list you can add to as you observe birds around your house, in your yard, or on a walk.

Please remember these activities are available to help keep your love for learning alive.  You are welcome to pick and choose your favorite activities.

Take care and watch for a new Flipgrid topic on Tuesday, March 31st. 😊💗

Week 1 Update

Good Morning!

I hope everyone is staying safe and the first week of schooling at home is going well.   I have listed out some updates about this week's learning below.

1.  Please let your children know that I am monitoring their Lexia minutes and would like them to follow the same expectations at home that we use at school.  That is half the minutes and units by Wednesday and all of them by the end of the day on Friday. If you have any concerns or questions with this, please let me know.

2.  Thank you to the students who have posted a hello to the class and shared a favorite movie/show on Flipgrid.  If your child has not visited our Flipgrid, it is a great place to see their classmates and share comments. I will continue to share topics with students.  Please remind your child, he/she is sharing his/her videos with classmates, parents, and me. The website is https://flipgrid.com/laukus1152 .

3.  Many children love Mo Willems' books.  The author is doing a daily lunch doodle.  He has done 3 doodles so far. Each one comes with an activity.  Very fun! https://www.kennedy-center.org/education/mo-willems/

Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is a way we at SJPS can help you.   I check my email quite regularly and am willing to answer any questions you may have as we spend this time away from one another.  I miss being with our class very much and look forward to being back together as soon as possible.

Take care,
Jenny

Second Grade Letter to Parents

Dear Second Grade Parents,

Below is the letter that was sent home with your student today. I have added a few items that I have put in bold print so you can see the differences. If your child was not in school today, I have packaged up the materials and put them in the office for you to pick up. Here is the letter.

We are really going to miss your students during the next four weeks without them.  It saddens us not to be with them and miss the opportunity to continue the amazing growth that has developed over these last few months.   It is our hope that you will help us continue this growth by supporting his/her education through some of the items we are both offering to you and sending home.   Here is a list of the learning we would love to see happen over this next month in order to ensure your child does not lose the great gains he/she has made.

Word Work: Our class will be learning the +le, +al, +el consonant pattern this week. Our pattern will show up in words like puddle, bottle and table. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

Additional info for this week in Room 107: Our math game will follow the last two weeks and be another type of memory. This time it will be telling time. I am presenting at the MACUL conference in Grand Rapids this week so Mrs. Schultz will be subbing in my room on Thursday and Friday.

Headphone/Earbud Request: It is that time of year when students’ headphones are no longer working and limited classroom headphones are not enough. Please ask your child if his/her headphones(earbuds) need to be replaced.
