Word Work: Our class will be learning about the r-controlled /ar/ syllable pattern this week. Our syllable pattern makes the sound as in beware, rarely, and prairie. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns. Spelling City is ready for students to access the practice list for the week.

Math Bags: Math bags will begin coming home every Monday again. They are due back on Thursday. This week’s game is Salute. Your student has been playing at school and should know how to play. Instructions will be included in the bag just in case there is any confusion.

Math Center: Did you know there are only 13 more Math Center days. At this time of year, your child should be half-way through Wizard C. If they are not at this point, please make sure they practice their facts nightly. If your child needs flashcards, we can provide a set for them to carry back and forth between school. Let us know if you have any questions.

Word Work: Our class will be continuing with learning about other -r controlled syllable patterns this week. Our -r controlled syllable pattern will contain e, i, u as in term, chirp, and turnip. Students will be expected to differentiate between -ar,-or, -er, -ir, and -ur syllable word patterns. Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.

*Our word list was sent home Friday, January 17th along with a math center practice sheet. Please check your child's take home folder. Thank you


Book orders are due Tuesday, January 21st. Please place online orders by 8:00 p.m.
Paper orders and payment are due during the school day.


Book Flicks: This coming Thursday students are being asked to access Book Flicks, select a category, and read a fiction / non-fiction book set for homework.

Stone Jar Celebration

Stone Jar Celebration
Our class filled the stone jar with stones and gold pieces from our "Ar" Day last week.  As a special celebration, we will watch a short movie, eat popcorn (provided by school), and enjoy a special drink brought from home.  Students may bring water, a clear pop or root beer, or juice, sport drink (no red/orange/purple) to enjoy with the popcorn and movie.  Students may bring their regular morning snack as well.  Thank you

Guest Readers: Our class would like to invite parents, grandparents, or special friends to share a favorite book with our class during the months of January, February, and March. We are available on C Days from 3:20 p.m. - 3:35 p.m. A sign up email was sent to you. If you did not receive it or can not sign up using the Google doc, please contact me.

Class Donations: We are in need of paper towel and bird seed. If you would like to donate a roll of paper towel or a small bag of bird seed it would be appreciated.

100th Day Project: Our 100th day of school will be on Feb. 6th. Your child will bring home the materials needed to create his/her 100th Day Riddle Bag soon. The 100 pieces of a single item should be put into the paper lunch bag. Students should write 3 clues about the 100 objects on the attached paper. Best handwriting and complete sentences should be used by all. 100th Day Bags may be brought to school on the 100th Day, February 6th. Please do not send them in early; we have no place to store them.

Our class holiday party was a huge success. Thank you to all the parents who donated supplies.  A special thank you to those parents who helped out the day of the party since 
I had to be gone due to my husband's surgery.  His retina surgery was a success and we are very grateful.

“All Hands on Deck!” Friday, January 10th our second grade classes may dress like pirates to celebrate our /ar/ syllable pattern. “Arrr” it should be a jolly ole time.
